karinaboese > Still Figuring It Out
Sun. December 28, 2008 (Day 257)

It was almost 6:30pm and I didn't know what to shoot for today's Daily.
I had time to read a bit today...
My nephew gave me this Jim Miotke's Digital Photography book for Christmas.
Pretty interesting book and I really like the way he explains stuff.
I've been trying to read it here and there.

... then I got an idea for my Daily's. VOILA!
Thanks Jim!

Sun. September 21, 2008 (DAY 160)

Finally!!!
After 10 years dreaming about it,
I printed my first photography book. YAY!!

This is the first proof from Blurb. Not really sure about the quality of the print. Some of my photos look canvasy? Maybe that's just my photo files that suck. Since this is for personal use only, I'm a happy camper!

NOTE: The cover photo was taken in Carita Beach, Indonesia.

Since Bill asked, here are my thoughts about Blurb:
* The program is very user friendly. Easy to move stuff around (photos or pages)
* I ordered 7x7 inches, 40 page and I got 70 photos in there.
* Love the quality of their 'matte' (not glosy) hardcover image wrap for $24.95
* I also ordered their glosy softcover for exactly the same book. It's nice & a lot cheaper ($12.95)
* Looks professional enough for me.
* The colors look great! That's very important.
* You do want to TRIPLE check everything (wording, spacing, composition, etc) before you order.
* I don't know why some of my shots came out/printed like on the canvas. I wonder if that's something to do with Picasa processing or their printer. Will see if it happens on the second edition.
* One of the photo, the sunflower, looks over saturated. It doesn't show on my computer screen, but it does on the book. Again, I think that's my mistake on post-processing. So you want to be careful on that.
* Overall? so far... I love it!

Next time, I'll be extra carefull on my post-processing & probably will switch from Picasa to something better. Picasa is very easy & fast but I read (and Bill informed me) that it is one of the worst free program out there. I hate to do a lot of post-processing... but I think I will have to switch to a new software soon.
karinaboese > Where's My Booty?
Mon. September 1, 2008 (DAY 140)

I always want to be a pirate.
Should've stayed in Indonesia & became one.
3 out of 6 Halloweens since I got in to US, I was a pirate; from a cute pirate to a bloody dead one. One thing that I never put on, the eye-patch - it just doesn't work with my glasses.

COME SHOW ME WHERE YE BURIED YER TREASURE, LAD!
I need them to buy me new lenses!!!

I had another enlightment today...
(don't laugh at me - I'm slow)
David E. has been telling me to shoot in raw. I have been shooting in raw, but still shooting in jpg too. Today... I decided, I will only care to shoot in raw format. I finally see the difference! Check out in X3L to see my Revelation shot.

Hope y'all (in US only) have a nice relaxing Labor Day!

Tue. June 3, 2008 (Day 52)

It took 52 days Daily Photos to remember that my Grandpa deserves all the credit for my shots. He gave me my first SLR camera back in 1986. I still have that Ricoh, complete with the fisheye lens...Along with this book, Copyright 1954 by Popular Mechanics Press.

I wish that he had a chance to see what we can do now. One simple shot + a little bit of Insert here + Backspace there and you can create totally different photos.

Nothing WOW on today's shot - just a sentimental value. Thank you Grandpa, I miss you.
