karinaboese > The Present
Fri. October 16, 2009 (Day 145)

"The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man.
Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.
That's why it is called the present."
- Alice Morse Earle, 1902 -

There were a few people laid off at my workplace.
Very sad day... One of my best buddies is gone.
It reminds me again of how life can change in a second.
You really should count your blessings and be prepared for whatever happens next.

karinaboese > Copper Rivets on Levi's
Sat. September 12, 2009 (Day 111)

Jacob W. Davis, a tailor, used small copper rivets to reinforce and strengthen items including harnesses. In 1871, a woman approached Davis to make pants for her husband, who was quite large. Davis decided to use the copper rivets to reinforce the pants for men. At the time, Davis used white duck, a canvas-type material he had bought from Levi Strauss & Co, a San Francisco merchant.
Worried about others pirating his product, he asked Levi Strauss to support him in a patent application. He offered to share the patent rights with the San Francisco company. Levi Strauss agreed, and the patent was granted on May 20, 1873. -Wiki-

Isn't that interesting? I learned something new today...!
karinaboese > Brainless Fish
Sun. August 23, 2009 (Day 91)

This creature is probably the stupidest one in this world,
but I think they are one of the coolest looking ones!

Nova, a friend of mine from Jakarta is in town for work.
I took her to the hot Houston zoo today. Yes... it was stinking hot!
I am wondering if my brain was working when I decided to go to the zoo.

See more shots under Animal, Bugs, etc gallery.

Tiny facts about Jellyfish:
* They have been around for more than 650 million years; older than dinosaurs & sharks.
* They don't have brain or any specialized functional system.
* They rely on nerve cells to help them move and react to food or danger.
* only 5% of the body of a jellyfish is solid matter, 95% water.
* It's not actualy a fish, but an invertebrate from the Coelenterate phylum.
